Rowan Bashford takes out SplitFest Best Line!

Congrats Rowan Bashford for taking out the 2015 SplitFest Best Line comp with some solid free-riding on the north face of B'Limit!

Conditions were perfect for dropping the line then a short tour back to the ski area in time for prize-giving. Nice work!

Get your pics in for the SplitFest 2015 Photo Competition will be happening .. with a pair of brand new Ranger Bindings up for grabs!!

Here are the rules:

  • Only photos taken at SplitFest 2015 ie Sept 11-13 inclusive are eligible.
  • Images may be enhanced (eg in Photoshop) but cannot be distorted to a degree that, in the Judges' opinion constitutes dist. Composites will be accepted (eg. action sequences overlaid onto the same frame).
  • The Judge's decision will be final and the image that best captures the spirit of SplitFest will win!

Closing date: Sunday 20th September
Submission format: Send your submissions as high resolution jpegs to
Licensing and Copyright: In submitting an entry to the SplitFest 2014 Photo Competition you are licensing SplitFest to utilise that image for any promotional purpose (including possible use in articles promoting Splitfest or splitboarding). If there is commercial interest from third parties in any image SplitFest will forward to enquiry to the photographer.

Global Delights slideshow Friday night

Kicking off on Friday .. the SplitFest Avalanche Awareness course will be followed by the Global Delights Slideshow in the evening!
We also have time for Open Mike so bring up a few pics of your travels to share (memory stick etc).
And .. be prepared for night boarding in fresh powder from 8pm so the Slideshow is happening over a few beers before dinner .. get up early and enjoy the festivities!

Extended Goods lift hours for SplitFest - 4 to 8pm on Friday night September 11th

For everyone hustling up after work on Friday the Goods Lift will be running late right through to 8pm.

On Saturday and Sunday the hours are 9am-12noon and 4pm - 6pm.

Backcountry riders .. Backcountry writers

Calling all creatives .. are there any writers out there?

Thanks to Cactus we're doing it again so get your ideas together for the 2016 SplitFest Creative Writing Comp!

Interested? Here's a few extra details on what we're looking for:
- the topic is not about SplitFest, and doesn't have to involve Split Boarding. The theme is your take on the experience of 'going backcountry'.
- some possible angles might be inspiration or informative writing about what you believe is the essence of going backcountry, the story of an inspiring trip, people you've met, place you've been, moment you've had, or something philosophical to share.
- you may illustrate your article with photos (great!) but the quality of writing is the key.
- there's no general formula, your imagination is the only limit!

To enter:
- layout your entry using any choice of font, graphics, illustrations, etc to create the best impact and get your message across to the reader
- save as a pdf and email your entry to

Closing date is 26th September.

SplitFest 2015 -  Temple Basin, Arthurs Pass, 10-13 September 2015. 

SplitFest 2015 is on ... your chance to explore the world of backcountry snowboarding beyond the bootpack!

Join us for another great backcountry festival in the unparalleled surroundings of Temple Basin and Arthurs Pass National Park. SplitFest offers you the chance to try out splitboarding and check out the latest developments and equipment. As always the main aim is to get the maximum number of backcountry snowboarders together in one place and have a good time!

This is your best opportunity to try splitboarding, demo new gear, learn how to splitboard, plan splitboarding trips, meet new touring partners, build your skills, and tune your safety awareness in the backcountry. 8.00pm - SplitFest Slideshow - featuring epic backcountry travels from around the globe!

Saturday September 12
10.00am Official Festival kick-off
If you're travelling up from town try to get to the Lodge by 10am or soon after to join the festivities and take advantage of the demo gear and other events. 
Temple Basin goods lift runs from 9am - drop your gear there and stroll on up!

10.00am Split Boarding Demo gear available all day
Demo gear is available all day. See Richard and Chris to try one or more board and bindings set-ups. Your best chance to try splitboarding and/or the latest gear!

11.00am - Split Boarding Technique Workshop
Join the technique workshop with Ryan. Register your interest beforehand so we have an idea of numbers and be sure you have your gear organised and ready to go by 11am.
